Why We Close Twice a Year (Yes, On Purpose)

We train every day at necessary & sufficient coffee®—seriously, every shift, every barista. But twice a year, we close for a few hours to host deep-dive specialty coffee training with our roasting partner. Think of it as our version of continuing education… except with more caffeine and more debate about extraction curves.

Why it matters:

Consistency:
These sessions let our whole team calibrate together, so your drink tastes incredible no matter who’s working or when you visit.

Respect for the farmer:
Our roasting partner brings us origin knowledge, processing expertise, and flavor guidance that help us express each coffee exactly as it was intended.

True economic sustainability:
Investing in staff development keeps quality high, waste low, and our team engaged and growing—because a sustainable café is built by sustainable careers.

These training closures augment, not replace, our daily training. They’re how we take a good coffee program and make it exceptional.
